If you haven't heard of Point Break, or had raging debates about whether it should be considered a great surf film, then you probably have been off surfing for the past two decades… lucky you. For everyone else who has seen this film we would like to take a moment for the cheesy genius that created Point Break, and introduced the world to the Keanu Reeves surfing, Patrick Swayze's Buddha-ness, and the now infamous image of the ex-president bank robbers.
For those of you who don't know the plot of this surprisingly engrossing film, ‘Point Break' is the story of how hotshot Johnny Utah (Reeves), fresh out of FBI training, is sent under cover as a surfer to try to track down a group of bank robbers suspected of being surfers. Teamed with his eccentric sidekick Pappas (Busey), Utah manages to sink himself into the surfing community of none other than Bodhi (Swayze) and his ex girlfriend (Petty)… whilst pursuing who he thinks to be the robbers in the shape of Warchild and crew. Suffice to say things don't go according to plan…
Cue moonlight surfing, a close encounter with a lawnmower, one of the longest on foot chase sequences, pre-james bond skydiving without a parachute, and general confused Keanu Reeves faces.
Special mention needs to go to Red Hot Chilli Pepper's front man Anthony Kiedis who plays the part of Tone in the film. Make sure you look out for him when you next watch the legendary movie.
Here's a little reminder of just why 'Point Break' is such a classic... enjoy.
