When it comes to the best beginner surf beaches in England, there are a lot to pick from especially when looking at the South Western tip at the counties of Cornwall and Devon. However there is always the odd exception to the rule if you fancy heading north to surf somewhere a little colder such as the Black Sea...
- 1- Croyde Bay, Devon
One of the best learn to surf beaches in England with its ideal a-frame breaking waves on a low tide, and easy right and lefthand waves on all other tides. The beach backs onto the small town of Croyde itself, where you can happily recover post surf with Devonish cream tea up at Baggy's Lodge over looking the beautiful bay.
- Time a visit to Croyde with the Jesus Surf Classic usually held in the middle of September to witness some of the best surfers in the UK compete in the UK's oldest running surf competition.
- 2- Watergate Bay, Cornwall
The rugged Cornish cliffs overlook the stunning beach of Watergate Bay where people begin to surf throughout the year. The beach offers consistent beginner righthand waves on all tides, although prepare for a long walk when the tide is out.
- There may not be a lot at Watergate Bay itself, but it does have a Jamie Oliver ‘Fifteen' restaurant to treat yourself to, offering amazing views of the break itself.
- 3- Widemouth Bay, Cornwall
Just south of the surf town of Bude, Widemouth Bay offers fun beach break waves to surf year round. The sandy bottomed break provides left and righthand waves, that are best on a mid to high tide.
- Apres surf, head into Bude town to do a spot of surfshop browsing, and to hangout in one of the many chilled surf bars and cafes.
- 4- Tynemouth Longsands, Tyne and Wear
For those hardy beginner surfers in Northern England, Tynemouth Longsands beach lies only 20 minutes away from Newcastle. If you're brave enough to withstand the Black Sea, then head to Tynemouth's beach for mellow left and righthand waves. However, if you can't face coldwater surf, then why not think about a surf holiday at some of the best beginner beaches in France, Spain, or Portugal?
- In 2013 Longsands was voted 4th in Trip Advisor's 2013 Travellers' Choice Beaches Awards.
