This area of Portugal is a year round surf destination and has the warmest sea water in the country. In the summer months you can surf in just shorts or a shortie and it doesn't get dark until 10pm so you can surf all day long! The coastline is part of the protected natural park with 50 kilometres of protected beaches with no large towns or high rise tourist accommodations. Instead you will discover beautiful pristine beaches and small traditional towns a far cry from the main overrun Algarve tourist spots.
Amado beach is the areas best beginner/intermediate surf beach and a great starting point. Amado is surrounded by many other great surf breaks with options for all standards. Praia da Cordoama is one of the most picturesque beaches in Portugal, a long stretch of sand protected by cliffs, a great intermediate spot. Praia do Castelejo beside it is even more consistent.
There's a dozen beaches further north all worth exploring including Arrifana & Amoreira, two very consistent beginner/intermediate beach breaks.
Furthest south is the laid back surf town of Sagres. The beaches East of Sagres such as Zavial & Martinhal are usually calm and require a big swell to work, they are a great alternative if the surf on the beaches on the West coast are too big. There are many hidden spots around Sagres some of which will require an SUV to get too but are well worth it especially for the more experienced.

We had a great time. Pedralva is a really special place, and the people working there were lovely, they couldn't have been nicer. They let us use the pool, even though it wasn't quite open, which was really appreciated on the hot evenings. Seanie made great friends with other kids in the village (language barrier no barrier when theres a soccer ball involved), so he had lots of fun. Surf lessons were great too, the chaps were very nice, and we had chats with them every day that we were at the beach after our first trip. We were delighted with everything, it's definitely a place I would like to visit again. I subsequently noticed that its on top 3 destinations to stay for algarve in lonely planet and ratings in trip advisor are great. The place seems to suit a lot of different kinds of people and group sizes. The standard of accommodation is very high also, that's worth emphasising too
Had a lovely time in Pedralva. The accommodation is lovely. Nice and remote. Staff very friendly and nice. They were in most days cleaning and replacing towels etc. The beaches are really really lovely. We were expecting the beaches to be a little deserted but they were just as busy as all the other areas of Portugal we went to. We toured around most of the beaches around the area of Sagres. I think it would have been more beneficial to have done surf lessons because it was hard to know what beaches were suitable on a daily basis. As for food, the pizzeria in Pedralva was lovely and there was two other amazing places we ate: Vila Velha in Sagres and O Sitio do Rio on the cliff top near Amado beach. They were more expensive than the average place to eat around there but the seafood in both places was amazing. In general it was a lovely place and we really did enjoy it
It was lovely! Great to be away from the city life and be close to nature. The children had an amazing time, loved the beach and the surf classes and climbing the cliffs around. Regards for all the team!
We loved it! Amazing surroundings, great deserted beaches (Ponta Ruiva, Telheiro and Murração) and uncrowded surf, and then backl to the comfort of a hotel type set up in a mystical old world village. The best combination ever!
